The INSTALL files in the Osprey and Permaseed source tarballs describe the steps for installing the software. This document provides an overview of the application components and offers suggestions on setting up an Osprey site and permaseeds.
Before you set up an Osprey site, you will need:
Web server (e.g. Apache)
Mysql
PHP
Shell access (for a dedicated BitTorrent tracker or permaseeds)
Python (for permaseeds)
Osprey was designed to run large sites in enterprise-class environments. However, small sites can be set up on a single server. Currently, only standard mysql is supported for the Osprey database. If there is sufficient interest in the future, backend support for others may be added (e.g. Mysql cluster, Postgresql, Oracle).
